M. Azizul Huq, former Inspector General of Bangladesh Police and a former advisor to the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh, breathed his last on January 15, Wednesday early morning at his Uttara residence. He was 84.
Azizul Huq, an economics graduate from Dhaka University joined the Police Services of erstwhile Pakistan in 1965. Before gracing the position of the Police Chief of Bangladesh from 1996-1997, during his long and shining career, he has held many crucial positions, as the Special Branch Chief, DMP and CMP Commissioners. After his retirement from police forces, he became an Advisor in the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh in 2006-2007, in charge of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Ministry of Shipping and Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
He was the eldest son of late Abdur Rahman Bakaul of Shariatpur, a former MNA of erstwhile Pakistan.
Aziz left behind his wife, three sons, grandchildren, many relatives, friends and well wishers. One of his sons, Hasib Aziz is currently serving as the Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner. His eldest son Asif Aziz is a renowned Banker and his youngest son Tawfiq Aziz is a specialist doctor. His family has solicited for everyone's prayers for the departed soul.
M. Azizul Huq is profoundly respected as an exemplary honest police officer and will be remembered for his remarkable services to the nation in different capacities.
